I am guessing that only one of us can use the tuition as a deduction because on ly one of us can claim her as a dependant???

The one who can claim her as a dependent gets the tuition deduction IF they actually paid the tuition, plain and simple.

Your guess is correct - you can only claim tuition if you claim the person as a dependent.

NEITHER of you can deduct college tuition. It's is specifically not deductible.
