Hhmmmm...I certainly have met a fair share of anglers that love the sport for it's competitive aspects and a lot of folks that just fish for fun or as a way to enjoy an outdoor activity and have no interest in fishing as sport. Others have the sole purpose of putting food on the table when they fish. With that logic I would have to say not all fishers are playing a sport but that there are an undeniably large amount of fans of the sport of fishing. Is that confusing enough?

I believe so as over 115,000 people purchased Resident Fresh Water Fishing Licenses in Massachusetts in 2004. So I am sure there are at least several ( 12 -15 ) million fishermen and women in the United States. And that is a conservative estimate.

Sport?! I don't play sports! I've never willingly played sports, unless you count pinecone wars as a sport.

Fishing is recreation.

hmmm i say it would be either hunting or fishing, most often if you do one you do the other. but there are some that hunt that don't fish and vice versa.
