It is nasty, but I guess they feel they can always wash their feet later.

I just read an article a week ago in the New York Times about a study where they examined where most germs are found and suprisingly public restrooms ranked about half way down the list along with escalator handels and door knobs. I've done it and I know hundreds of others who have as well and heard of no ill effects coming from it. Our bodies do a pretty good job of protecting us from day to day bacteria and such, so I don't really have a problem with it. I try not to lick my feet after I've been walking around all day barefoot and I also take my feet in the shower with me to wash them. When was the last time you washed your shoes - Yuch!!!

Yes, I trust my feet. Our skin is made to keep pathogens out, we're at a far greater risk of picking something up with our hands, even in a restroom. With our hands we transfer the germs to our face when we touch our face for any reason or when we touch food (even washing our hands before dinner, who has never ever taken a cookie or snack without washing up?).
Besides, I'm always barefoot so I'd have to carry footwear along, take it out of my bag, then *handle* the dirty footwear, and put it back into my bag with all my other stuff... that'd greatly increase any risk of infection! Or I'd have to keep wearing shoes all day long just in case I had to use the restroom at some point in time, well I'm not going to do that.

I wouldn't because i really do not like to walk barefoot if i can help it, especially in public but i have seen people do so in the beach restrooms.
At the beach, it think it is OK but not anywhere else.

not unless I had to pee so badly I was going to pop and for some odd reason something had happened to my shoes.. but the chances of that are slim so I'll go with no. Or if I were with someone I would make them loan me their shoes to go in the rest room and then give them back.. but I really don't know why I wouldn't have my own shoes lol

No I would not either for the came reason. I know when going to Florida I would see people getting from cars because of the heat and going into the rest rooms too. So many germs too.
I would carry a cheap pair of flip flops then too.

Outside of my own home, I wouldn't walk barefoot anywhere.

Just reading this question gave me the heebie-jeebies! Heavens NO. This topic rates a solid 8 out of 10 on my "that's too gross to think about, let's all wash our hands" (or feet) scale.

Never. It's disgusting and I can't imagine all the germs and bacteria that i'm picking up on my bare feet while I'm walking about.
