The terrorists forged that link by shouting ALLAH AKBAR as they began their attacks. Must we pretend we are blind and deaf just to satisfy your apparent need to feel innocent? What is unfair is for 'moderate' muslims to pretend that they have no responsibility to stop those who are 'using' their religion. You say you're peaceful? PROVE IT.

Because they are in fact historically and presently linked, and more to Islam today than any other faith. Fairness requires we submit the facts objectively. Islam and terrorism are factually linked on a 24 hour basis.
How many Muslim suicide bombers and assassins have to kill how many hundreds per day before you admit that truth? By the end of this year at least a half million Iraqis will be dead because they practice the wrong flavor of Islam and the only thing keeping them from murdering each other in an all-out slaughter is the presence of infidel soldiers, not Islam. It's Shiites and Sunni slaughtering one another in Iraq. It's not Jews in there blowing up the markets and bus stops.
There isn't a more laughable statement I've heard in my lifetime than "Islam is a religion of peace." Okay, George W. Bush's "I'm a uniter, not a divider." comes close.

lol. look at so many other answerers dismissing the Christian terrorists in Ireland that have been going on for at least 100 years. Foolish to ignore what terrorism your own religion is doing because you don't like it.
Religion and terrorism get linked because most of the time it IS linked. The religious are far more likely than the non religious to go to war and hurt people over their religion.
Read a history book.

Because many muslims are trying to justify or excuse the terrorists' actions as standing up to the west, rather than just condemning them like they should be doing, while they may not be directly involved in the violence. Also they seem to think the whole world should be subject to their religious laws when someone makes fun of their prophet, even though making fun of Christianity has become the norm in the media.

it's not always linked with religion. In this current environment most of the terrorist who oppose the US are Muslim and they believe Christians in the West are trying to destroy Islam. So while it's unfair to other Muslims it's and obvious association.
example: Nelson Mandela was considered a terrorist and imprisoned for it.

[2:62 & 5:69] Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
[3:113-114]. They are not all the same; among the followers of the scripture, there are those who are righteous. They recite GOD's revelations through the night, and they fall prostrate.
They believe in GOD and the Last Day, they advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and they hasten to do righteous works. These are the righteous.
O People of the Book! Let us rally to a common formula to be binding on both us and you: That we worship none but God; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than God. (Surat Al 'Imran, 64)

its abominable to associate religion with terrorism. As for relating it to Islam, I think the so called Jehadis are responsible for tarnishing the image of the muslims. And its strange that Muslims have never raised a voice against it! whats wrong with them? by the way, a v.good question.

It is certainly unfair. After all (not counting Iraq), only 19 of the last 20 major instances of terrorism were perpetrated by Muslims. (The exception: the Oklahoma City bombing.)

It's unfair because the terrorist are Muslims. The cite words from the Koran justifying their cause. Islam is a religion of peace but the media portraits it as a violent religion.
