I have an 18 month old baby and I've been giving him yogurt since he was 6 months old. Someone just told me not to give him yougurt because it's very dangerous. He really loves it and now I don't know what to do.

The person who told you that yogurt is dangerous is talking nonsense. Babies who eat yogurt have a healthy "gut flora" (the collection of good bacterial cultures which keep bad bacteria at bay) .
Make sure the ones you choose don't have the "kid friendly" artificial colors and flavors, or the "light" yogurts with artificial sweeteners.
Buy Dannon because its culture includes acidophilus and Dannon tends to have a lower sugar content than many other brands.

I am a mother of 4, ages 7, 6, 2 1/2 & 4 months, and my 3 older children have been eating yogurt since they were about 6 months old and it hasn't affected them in negative way at all. My pediatrician said it was good for them i many ways, it helps build their immune system, keeps them from getting yeast infections, and it's great for them. My children have yogurt for snack everyday. I say it's good for them and keep on on giving it so it will help your child to eat nutritionally.

yes it is very safe so long as it not the sugar free stuff. give him the regular or the kind made for children like danon. the sugar free stuff has artificial sweetners and that may or may not be healthy as some people think it's not safe to eat but regular yogurt or the kind made for kids is perfectly safe. My daughter has been eating it since she was 8 months old and she 3 1/2 now and hasn't had any problems with it.

Yogurt is perfectly safe and in fact is a very healthy food for toddlers. I have 3 children who have all been eating yogurt since they were about 6 months old. Whoever told you that it was dangerous must have been pullin' your leg.

Yogurt is NOT dangerous for toddlers. My youngest will sometimes eat NOTHING BUT yougurt for a whole day. My pediatrician says that is fine. He's growing well, healthy and yogurt is a healthy food.

I have never heard it was dangerous. Many will advise waiting longer til at least 9 months but for an 18 month old is perfectly safe as long as it doesnt have artificial sweetener in it

In general, the answer to your question is that yoghurt is not dangerous.

To extend that, there are yoghurts that have been pasturized, stabilized, artificially coloured and flavoured,... Well, the list goes on.

If you want to feed yoghurt to your child, try to find live culture natural yoghurts. They are only slightly more expensive but are much more healthy than the plastic stuff on most shelves.

My two girls got natural yoghurt in a mixed formula we prepared for them when they started in on bottle feeding (after breast feeding.) It sure didn't hurt them.

Good luck.
