Tommey bear is correct, Jesus said it first durring the Sermon on the Mount...
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42, NIV)
Most people who make inflamatory comments are doing to to get a reaction, and Jesus (not suprisingly clever when it come to human psychology) tells us that our reaction should be to respond in kind, but rather to concede. So a response to some shouting such a thing would be "I'm sorry you feel that way." Offering to educate them would be acceptable as well, but you must do so in a way that does not make it seem as if you are right and they are wrong, just that you have some information they might like to hear.

I just tell them that it's 'ok' to strongly dislike the faith (or any other faith) but there is no reason to go around yelling about how you 'hate' an entire group of people unless you are looking for a fight. Most likely, I'd ignore someone that was randomly saying they 'hated' people. If I knew the person, I'd probably ask 'why' then have a discussion about it.
I'm not a Christian but I would never run around saying I hate everything or everyone associated with it. That's childish.

I have never had anyone say that to my face only on Yahoo. What a joy to be here. Thank God for the full armour of God. If someone said it to my face I would ask them "Why", and hopefully try to create peace between us. If that person was still unreasonable then I would say "Well, go in peace and live your life as you see fit, but hate will do you in". Hate has a way of turning and biting us back instead of harming the intended.

I say, "Oh my God Magnum" in the voice of the english Higgins character. I only have to live with one religious zealot, so I'm not outnumbered like you are. Tips: spend as much time away from home as possible, demand a "secular zone" for yourself when/where you will not accept being badgered about religion. Seek friends who either believe similarly to yourself or who don't force their creeds on you.

"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces."
Matthew 7:6
"And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."
Mark 6:11
*Turn the other cheek was Jesus
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic."

Ok well I am also a christain and i probly wouldhave yelled at him and told him off. But the best thing to do probly would be to ask him why he hates them so much and try to explain why we are like we are and try to help him better understand.

I probably would try to find out why he would make a statement like that and try to get him to see that what he has done was made an over generalization. All people regardless of what sect their apart of are different.

I am Pagan and I would say that the religion is separate from the person and just because someone is christian is no reason to hate them. Just like it is wrong to hate someone because of the color of their skin.
