If one is sincere in their the apologies for offending God and for sinning against another then your sins are forgiven by God and forgotten. One must also apologize to those you have sinned against. But one must keep up a life of sincerity of repentance and try and sin no longer.

Acts 26:20 . . .I went bringing the message that they should repent and turn to God by doing works that befit repentance.
Since probably none of those who become believers have committed any of the unforgivable sins. Usually God will forgive those who become believers their sins -- if they repent, turn around, and produce works that befit repentance. They must also dedicate themselves to God 100% and be baptized, immersed in water.
This gives forgiveness but not exclusion from punishment for prior sins. E.g. those who have been promiscuous may have acquired various sexual diseases -- these they will have to fight with in the normal manner, until God's kingdom cures all diseases.

there is no forgiveness for sinning on purpose.the only forgiveness is if you sin and not know that your sinning. Also If someone accepts God's gift of salvation all their past sins are gone and they have forgiveness. But once we accept Christ we are to study God's word to make sure we don't sin.

"Forgive": is for "them" who "know not" what they do.
Charity never faileth is above "forgiving one another".
Charity is neither of the two "love"s in Mt 22: 36-40.
Grace: neither of two "law"s in Mt 22: 36-40 law law.
"Forgive", is notably before the X-ifiction.
After the X-ifiction it's "destroy them all".
"Them" all: scape-goats & dumb-sheep.
Law of law/law and Grace of law/grace.
Both thems are division-all, not unify-ing.
See Luke 17 for Son of Man plan for them.
It's notably the Noahic sort of "destruction".
See 1Thess 5:3 for what happens to "them".
It's notably "no escape" sort of "destruction".
X-ians: Stop painting an X on your head.
It's as if "mark"-ing yourself for sudden "destruction".
Watch out for the F5 harvestor: harvesting a swath.
I hear it can cut a mile wide swath in just a few secs.
MARK & AVOID "them" which cause "division": Rom 16.
Hell-o! Is anyone there, or am I speaking into a vacuum?
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

We are to have faith: trust and obedience to Christ as our Lord and Saviour. He already paid our price for our sins. Through faith - and only faith - can we ask for forgiveness and actually receive it in the eyes of God the Father. We cannot earn our way into God's favor; Jesus already did that for us. In response, we live by faith in profound gratitude.

I can only answer in the context of Judaism. (I really don't know enough about other religions.)
Basically, if a person regrets what he did and tries not doing it again, G-d forgives us.
PLEASE NOTE: The desire to repent is a positive force: One is not supposed to become depressed. The feeling of remorse should propel me to do good, not to stop doing things.

God forgives the repentant, not people who try. Repentance is the key-learn what that means.
