I wan't to buy a sound system. There are DVD players (not amplifier) with speakers including a 200W RMS subwoofer... and some are Amplifiers (AM/FM only... no DVD player) with lower subwoofer (100W RMS). Please help me to decide.

There are 3 options, #1. Jamo DVD Player (built-in Amplifier) + speakers w/ 200W RMS subwoofer. (Denmark) #2. Denon Amplifier + speakers w/ 100W RMS subwoofer. (Malaysia) #3. Defenitive speakers w/ 150W RMS Subwoofer (U.S.) + Marantz Amplifier.

To make things simple, and get great sound for the money, I suggest that you put these components on your short list...

The best sound comes from the most advantageous combination of speakers and amplifier. Some speakers will sound good with one receiver/amplifier and lousy with another. If you're looking to buy separate components, you need to demo them together, on a variety of music or movies you know very well so you can truly measure their response and quality.

In general, new low to midrange DVD players will all seem very similar in sound and picture quality, you will pay extra for additional features and build (not program) quality.

This is not true of receivers/amplifiers, which have a huge range. Each brand has its own idiosycrasies... some favor the highs, others are known for having a very warm sound. This, of course, can be exacerbated by the speakers you choose... bright speakers with a high-leaning receiver could be a sonic disaster.

some speaker's like some amplifiers. its matching your components that will make them sound good. for example if you spend a grand on a new reciever and buy a one hundred dollar pair of speakers its not going to sound as good as lets say a three hundred dollar onkyo with good speakers. speakers are what you should spend most of your money on they make more of a difference than a amp. but dont buy a cheap amp. All i can reomend to you is buy the most expensive components you can afford and dont buy a amplifier with a dvd player in it beause this lessins the quality of your sound by far. not to mention home theaters in a box almost always have poor sound. i would go with a klipsch speaker package which you can get at most best buy stores and a onkyo reciever you cant go wrong with those components.

Both, really. If an amplifier has a ruler flat frequency response and a loudspeaker has a similar responce with no more than +or-2db then you should get good quality sound.
However in the real world things are not that simple.Amplifiers vary in their degree of quality.Loudspeakers are even harder to choose because of their coloration added to the sound.

I think if you listen to as many different brands as possible within your budget you will find a pair that you could really live with even if you have to wait a bit before you buy an amplifier

You really need both good speakers and amplifier, but i would spend your money on the speakers because they are easier to upgrade because the speakers will probably be wall mounted so they will be harder to upgrade than the amplifier that you can just unplug the wires and plug them into a new one. I wouldn't get an amplifier that is built into a DVD plyer because they are not as good as stand alone amplifiers (they usurally do have radio in them).

It depends on your budget. If you are not an expert on the equipment, have less than $1000 to spend, and want good sound, I would suggest an Onkyo all-in-one system. They are an excellent value for the money & start at about $500. You can view them at: www.crutchfield.com

my Fiance is a big speaker buff, he says
Put more money into your speakers , you can always go back and upgrade your amp. alot cheaper than replacing speakers.
no common domestic speakers.
Try B&W, Difinitive tech.
Polk Audio.
Your safest investment is the speakers hands down.
