Lala Jay is correct (partially) - British as a nationality has been in decline since the breakup of the British Empire. Certainly very few people in Scotland or Wales see themselves as British these days. A lot of English people (especially those who have their origins in other countries which were formerly part of the Empire) still consider themselves as British, however. Northern Irish unionists also tend to see themselves as British above all else.
