Can Windows98 read NTFS files on a hard drive? If not, would Windows Explorer in W98 even see the drive?

This assumes the drive was formatted on a machine using Windows 2000 or newer.

It is possible but very, very difficult, usually read-only and potentially dangerous. Out of the box Windows 98 uses FAT16 or FAT32 and can't read NTFS.

MS Windows 98 only supported FAT32 file systems. I don't recall seeing anything that allowed direct disk access for an internal drive formatted with NTFS. You could try searching for some third party software that enabled that capability for Win9x but given the age of the OS and the fact that it is "end of lifed" you may not find any vendors still selling that application.

Pretty sure the answer is no, Windows 98 only knows FAT and FAT32, not NTFS. Explorer in 98 might see the drive as unrecognized or unformatted.

Yes, Windows 98 can be made to read NTFS.
