why frequency modulation is used for audio and amplitude modulation for video.?

AM modulation is used for the video to keep the bandwidth of the transmitted signal equal to that of the video signal itself. FM tends to have many sidebands that would have made the signal too wide. FM was chosen for the audio for fidelity and to keep the video and audio signals from interacting.
