Yes, a trainer only goes on one wheel. There are other products called rollers that allow you to balance and turn both wheels. However these are generally for more advanced riders and require a lot of practice.

Yes, the trainer connects through the rear wheel quick release skewer. You can also buy a riser block to put under the front wheel to level the bike off, or just put a couple books under it.
