Believers can say that God will one day show himself (of herself) to us and we cannot say otherwise; alternatively they can state that God is revealed to those who die.

These two points cannot be, I believe, disproved; so do you ever think science will be able to prove there is absolutely no God(s)?

I am no expert so I apologise if I have my facts wrong, and I am keeping my own views on the subject hidden so as to hope for sensible, unbiased and relatively informed answers- thanks

I beleive in God and I don't think it will EVER be scientifically possible to prove He exists. Either you believe or you don't beleive. How else would we be tested?

It bears noting that the questioning of Jesus' existence does not predate the 19th century. It is a relatively new phenomenon. Although people resist the idea that the Bible can self-prove, what has to be remembered is that the epistles and gospels do not all come from the same source. Paul wrote his letters much earlier - he does not speak totally in the abstract - and he does mention meeting members of Jesus' family, James and Peter particularly. And remember also that Peter's house in Capernaum is a known archaeological find - perhaps the most important archaeological find for the New Testament, and a place where one of the scenes of the NT takes place. Serious historians do not doubt in the existence of a historical Jesus. Such speculation remains solely in the realm of pop-religion books.

Whether one speaks for or against the existence of God, the central point is God. You say, "I hope you understand that it is not the way with science to provide proof for things that do not exist." But we see that the so-called scientist is very busy trying to prove the nonexistence of God. If God has no existence, why bother about Him? According to logic, one cannot conceive of a thing that does not exist. And if a nonexistent entity is inconceivable, where is the question of even discussing it, whether positively or negatively?
It is the peculiar madness of many socalled scientists that they cannot seem to get off the subject of God, who according to them has no existence. We see that the whole aim of their scientific research is to justify their rebellion against the authority of God and the scriptures by trying to find an alternative cause and reason for life and creation. Although these scientists would like to believe that life originated from inert chemicals, no one has ever observed such an event. Therefore, a science based on such beliefs can only be a science of rascals and fools.

I do believe that if God exists, one day science will prove it. The contrary of this may be not true. Because science can prove only what exists. This is a point that now in Physics they are working for: to perceive and prove what don't exist. When we get so far, then science can answer to us all. Science is not against God. It has never been.

No, you cannot prove a negative.

In my opinion, if it doesn't have substance that can be measured & it does not appear to anyone it does not exist.

Would you debate the existance of the tooth fairy because scientists cannot prove that she does not exist? This is the same thing. God is a blown-up version of the tooth fairy. The bible is hearsay & word of mouth... similar to your parents telling you the tooth fairy is real. The obvious difference is that one is written "hearsay" & the other is a fable passed on from family members to their children. Aside from that it is no different.

If there is no measurable proof of existance then it does not exist. Someone beating me over the head with a bible & telling me that the bible says he exists means nothing. That is not proof of existance. There are plenty of fictional stories that have been around LONG before the bible was created, that does not mean that the characters in those stories were real. They are simple stories.

Edit:
In general, the burden of proving that something exists rests on the shoulders of the believer and NOT the skeptic. Scientists aren't out there trying to prove god wrong. They are simply trying to figure out why things in the universe happen, and the more they find the more they believe that there is no god. If you believe and you want to convince someone who doesn't believe, the burden of proof rests on your shoulders. I'm going to use the dragon theory that someone posted here not too long ago..... If i tell you that there is a big dragon in my garage, of course your'e going to want to see it. You're not simply going to believe my word. You're going to want to see proof, so you ask to see it... I take you to my garage & you see a large empty space... no dragon..... "Oh" i say " i forgot to tell you.... he's an invisible dragon. You ask if you can pet him.... "Sure, but he's incorporeal.... he has no substance so if you pet him your hand will simply pass through him." ... I'm sure after that you'd think I was lying to you & making it up. That's how Atheists see christians. They insist on the existance of a god, yet every possible bit of proof that such a being exists is shot down because they have a reason why their god is the opposite of what would be needed to show the truth. The only "proof" they offer up is the bible. It's unfortunate for you that the bible is hardly enough proof that such a being exists. Only the foolish ones believe in such a story. The bible is not a history book, it is a 2000+ year old tall-tale that people have been following because they want it to be true.

"If you want something bad enough you'll believe in anything." --Me

Like those people who are so desperate to have someone who loves them that they allow themselves to be scammed out of THOUSANDS of dollars because they are so desperate to believe someone unconditionally loves them. (I.e. the nigerian scams) It's the same thing with the bible. Everyone wants to believe that this loving creator is waiting for them in the afterlife, but they're just being scammed by the religious institutions that are using them for their donation money & blind faith so they'll fight for their cause.

Of course not, since the definition of God allows him to be undetectable until such time as he decides not to be. Since he is not subject to the laws of science and nature, then any observations or testing done to prove that he doesn't exist have no relevance.

One can prove that a particular concept of God doesn't exist, of course. E.g. it was once thought that Zeus lived on the top of Mt. Olympus. When people were able to climb up there, they were able to determine that there was no home of the gods up there at all.

That, of course, doesn't mean that Zeus didn't or doesn't exist -- it means that the concept of him as living on Mt. Olympus is wrong. He might have moved or people may have been wrong about where he was living all along.

I really don't see how.

In order to know for certain whether or not he exists we would have to have an understanding of how something/someone can exist outside of our universe.

Personally, I believe that no matter how advanced we become, those secrets will never be revealed to us, through science or theology.

So, if he does exist, he's done a pretty good job of hiding himself.

(For the record, I believe that he does, but not in the way that any organised religion claims).

I know little if anything about what is in the bible or what all these predictions and fears are all about. But to me there is all reason without doubt... there is a God. Just take a walk outside for a look around and ask yourself what force created all your eyes can see and all your ears can hear. and what you can smell, touch and taste. If you have a brain in your head (another miracle) use it wisely. You are only here for a short time so work hard and enjoy this life which is all you really know. Is there anything more perfect?

I don't think you could ever prove God doesn't exist (first of all who or what is God), evolution, astronomy, science in general, could show how mankind and the universe came into existence but doesn't show that God doesn't exist. Personally, I am an atheist, as I can see no reason to believe in God.

No and it isn't the job of science to prove or disprove God. If God can't be proven to exist then the logical default is disbelief regardless of what science says on the matter.

Beyong WHOSE doubt?

Like global warming and the 9/11 conspiracy, there will always be believers no matter what evidence materializes.

There is certainly a lot more evidence of either of the above than there is in the existence of God.
