Hi, I have been researching my family tree now for sometime and have hit a brick wall. I am trying to find who Obadiah Cave was and any proof he existed. I have scoured the usual web pages including the CFH site, but these do not give me any information at all. Please help!!

Hey Mark,

You obviously have some mention of his name, but it is likely what you do not have are his parents, or his birthday and birth location. This could be for any variety of reasons, lets assume that Obadiah was on the move in his youth. Maybe he was a soldier, or sailor, or immigrant. It would be helpful if we had what you know about him, as when you suspect he lived, or where. Of course the ultimate proof would be that his suspected parentage is proven false, but it seems that is what you are looking at - did he or did he not exist.

One place you might look is at the GENFORUM, and post a question to the CAVE family. Parden this silly humor, but 'it is so simple a CAVE man could do it' (that is an AFLAK commercial on US TV popular today).

Anyway, you might try the passage sites, such as Ellis Island, and such too. Even that, there are so many sites, it would help to know where Obadiah was found in your family tree.

I`m not surprised you`ve hit a brick wall - it`s not a person - obadiah hid documents in a cave. And if you`ve got this far back in your family tree there`s not much more you can do coz this is like the beginning of time. Obadiah was a prophet !

There are 2 birth records on ancestry.co.uk for people called Obadiah Cave. Both were born in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, one in 1859, the other in 1904.

The first one was married in 1881 to Alice Bott. Their children were Frances, Alfred, John, Charles and Thomas.

The second seems to have been married in 1910 to either Mary Hincks or Catherine E Parsons. (The records are not clear and the only way to be sure would be to buy the marriage certificate from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp ).

If you have any other specific questions please email me and I will pass on any info I can find.
