one sits on a table, and the other hangs from the ceiling?

Essentially they are both the same when you first bring them home and set the boxes on the table...
But the one that says "Ceiling Fan" on the box comes with some special brackets that allow you to attach it to the ceiling instead of leaving it in a box sitting on the table.
Once you take the table fan out of the box, it will probably stay on the table, unless you put it on the floor, at which time it will become a floor fan.
Another difference would be that most table fans cost less than $100 and most ceiling fans cost more than that. So the difference would be the cost of the ceiling fan minus the cost of the table fan.
Also, if the ceiling fan is black and the table fan is white, the difference would be in the color.

A ceiling fan is used to blow things off of the ceiling like spiders. A table fan is used to blow things off of the table, like spiders which have just gotten blown off ot the ceiling.
Then there are the floor fan and the window fan which should complete the job.
Please don't ask about squirrel cage fans.

1.) Table fan is portable
2.) Table fan can be rotated to 120 degrees.
3.) Table fan is heavier
4.) Table fan does not provide higher speeds of the blades.

Hi. The direction of flow is much more important than the rotation direction. A table fan tends to blow towards the front. A ceiling fan is reversible so it can push air down or up. The moving air cools the people in the room by evaporation of perspiration.

Its obvious, one is installed in the ceiling and is not mobile and the other sits on a table or floor and is very mobile. They both move air by a slanted blade.
