If you are due a refund, nothing will happen, though you should still file for an extension to keep the IRS at bay especially if you have stock sales or other such items in your return.

If you owe taxes you MUST file for an extenstion to avoid a penalty for late filing. You should include a payment with your Form 4868 extension application to avoid any penalty or interest for late payment of tax.

one year i didnt pay my taxes, whenever they came to my door i just hid in my basement, they stopped coming after a couple of months.
