not getting your qualifications doesn't mean you couldn't get a good job or even be wealthy, just look at Richard Branson who failed his A-levels, but it does make it harder. Some fields require a high level of education, doctors, nurses, teachers, etc but experience is more highly required than qualifications.
A lot of people who aren't interested in schooling whilst young return to education at a later date and most universities take life experience into consideration for degree programs.

If you think of everyone, the answer is that the universities will take the top of all that are there. If everyone got straight As they would still only take the same number of students.
Secondly, if you fail at university there are still a vast range of other career options available to you. A university degree might not really teach you that much, but it has value for finding work, progressing at work, pay rates and even going to work or live in other countries.
However there are other ways into University as well as alternative vocational training. Often hard work and an idea of what you want to do will get you where you want to go.
There are plenty of university graduates (especially liberal arts majors) who are unemployed and living on dog food, so why worry.

You would be stuck in a dead end jod which doesn't require much brain activity. Decent jobs require you to prove you have some sort of level of intelligence, who would want to pay a good wage to someone who hasn't even tried at school and has no academic results?

I guess you would stay on at school and try and resit them.
Failing that maybe contacting companies to see if they will employ an office junior but there again most companies wont employ you without any qualifications.
