Well, extreme grief can be brought on by many things. If people feel that the person who died has gone on to heaven and that they might not, it is that feeling of separation forever. And vice versa is true as well. I don't know where your family stands as far as true Christianity goes, but the Bible is pretty clear about death and what follows. If you have no hope after death, then you feel that the person has passed never to be seen again and are gone forever. Another cause can be guilt. If your family members think that they treated the uncle badly, and now he is gone and they didn't get the chance to change, then guilt can cause uncontrollable grief! I saw that in my sister when my father died. She caused so much trouble in the family, but my dad and I were very close. At the funeral home, my sister weeped and wailed and clung to him in the casket! I was saddened because I had lost my father and my friend, but I had no guilt about our relationship. You need to treat people like it is the last time you will ever see them, because it very well may be!

If I understood this right... your family never got along with your unlce's side of the family although you and your family are upset by his passing.... Just because your family and you didn't get along with your unlce's family doesn't mean that you all didn't love him... and miss him... maybe the thoughts that you all might have missed out is setting in...

Perhaps you're experiencing regret that it's now too late to make things right with him. Use this as a life lesson. If there's a problem, work it out while you can; some day it will be too late. And "some day" often comes sooner than you expected.
