you cant choose which body part to lose the weight off - it has to be overall weight loss. your belly is just a part of your body fat reserves are being stored the most.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Do cardio first to get rid of the flab that is blocking the muscle.
Then do crunches to shape the abs. They should be done on the same day/work out. I normally do crunches to target my upper abs, but it works the whole core regardless. If you want to get a leaner tummy, also do V-ups, leg raises, and bicycle crunches.

No matter how many crunches you do you will not lose fat. You need to do tons of cardio first. Once you lose the fat from cardio you can begin doing the crunches. U are wasting time doing crunches since even if you build muscle under there you still have fat covering it up.!!!

search in books for other stomach exercises and the number of crunches doesn't matter but the time matters like fifteen minutes is enough and u will hopefully see some results after 2 week.s

I thought crunches are meant to build up the muscles (abs, I mean). If you want to lose tummy, I suggest you run instead. It's faster, and also gives you abs.

You need to combine your crunches with cardio workouts as this burns off the fat that is currently hiding your muscles.
