the bible was not telling us to pluck out our eye per se,

the bible was simply talking about the sins of the eye, and you should remove the sins of the eye!

please don't take bible verses too literally

You are taking a scripture out of context and of all things out of the old testament. It says if your eye will keep you from gaining entrance to heaven it would be better to pluck it out. Until you have a full understanding of the new testament it is better not to go to the old testament till you understand it's place.

Jesus said hell is so bad that if you eye offend you, yes it is better that you pluck it out if it keeps you from going to that awful place.

Mat 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

This verse should not be literally translated. It means that you should not be tempted to look at a woman maliciously and when you happened to look at her with bad desire to his chastity, you better not to look at her because you will only tempted commit adultery. Look at her without malice.

Only if it will keep you from going to heaven. it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
