you kind of have to count calories, too, if you want to lose weight.
e.g. breakfast - old fashioned oatmeal with egg whites and orange (dont drink your fruit - eat them)
snack - ff yogurt and whole wheat toast
lunch - fresh salad with lean meat, baked patatoe
snack- apple or celery with peanut butter, or baby carrots with ff dressing
dinner-steamed veggies with some lean meat
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Personally, I eat 'backwards' and eat my largest meal of the day in the morning. This tends to jump-start me a bit and makes sure I have the energy to make it through one of my long, hard days of cooking and research. (LOL! If everyone had it so good!) I also get a couple of snacks in there, so I do eat about five times a day.
I make a meal plan each week to make sure I am having an over-all balanced weekly diet. I have a heart condition, so I have to watch what I eat and make sure I get all of the proper nutrients. According to my meal plan, today I am having (if it still sounds good an hour from now):
8:00 AM - BBQ beef sandwich with leftover roast beef, spicy/sweet asian slaw, homemade herbed oven fries and a cookie with my coffee.
11:00 or Noonish - Roasted asparagus with garlic, sliced apple with a bit of blue cheese and fresh pepper and a hard boiled egg.
2:00/3:00 - snack of popcorn or fresh veggies
6:00/6:30 - Yogurt with sliced strawberries, piece of wholemeal toast
9:00 - Chocolate ice cream!
Portion control is the biggest thing here. I actually eat slightly larger portions than I should because I need to gain a bit of weight. If I didn't want to gain weight, I'd move that ice cream up earlier in the day so I could burn it off, and I'd eat smaller portions of everything.
I drink a lot of coffee and a lot of water, so I tend not to drink fruit juices. However, if I was going to do that, I'd cut out part of another fruit portion somewhere in my menu. They tend to be high calorie.

you know eat a healthy diet. which is a balance of go, glow, grow food. Go foods are cakes, candies, rice, bread, yam and etc. grow foods are meat, chicken, pork, shrimp, seafoods and etc... and glow foods are vegetables and fruits. As long as your stomach is full and not hungry. Over eating is bad because it will cause stomach ache.
