I suggest trying this method that works for me with my remote of a different kind.
I take the batteries out for 5 minutes. I unplug the the box for 5 minutes. Then I put the batteries back in first. Then plug the box back in. This allows the RAM chips in the remote and the box unit to go blank basiclly resetting them to the factory defaults.
Good luck if this doesn't work call customer service and yell at them. The techie may not be able to solve your problem but at least you will get to empty the stress onto a viable target.

To find out if the remote actually is working or not, switch on a radio on an AM station, bring the Remote near the radio and press the buttons, do you hear any distortion on the radio ? If you do , your remote is fine, if not, time to get another one.
One thing to check, when you put the batteries in, make sure the springs are actually touching the batteries and you may want to try a new set of batteries just in case.
check if it is still under warranty, that usually help resolves such problems :-)

Had a similar problem which I resolved by re-tuning the freeview channels. The remote is sort of working as the light flashes when you press the buttons which means that you have inserted the batteries the right way round. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Have you used sticky finger on the control? build up of stuff can get inside the control and make it play up! thats my serious answer :)
Also, has anyone had a problem I had last week, my freeview remote just suddenly exploded! for no reason? and then 3 minutes later? a tree out front exploded as well? and my left ear has turned blue? I am sure others have experiened this problem? :)

You may have accidentally pressed the STB button on the remote (usually next to the TV button), so try pressing it again to put the remote back into TV mode. Hope you sort it out soon as I was in a similar position recently and know how frustrating it is when you can switch over to a favourite programme.

I had this happen recently, but it turned out something was pressing down on another remote so it was sending out a continuous signal. That was interefering with the remote that didn't seem to be working.
So anyway check that nobody's sitting on another remote, or that you haven't put something on top of one nearby.

Try turning your freeview box off and leaving it for 30 seconds before plugging it back in.

How many times have you dropped it? I've broken many a tv remote because it falls off the arm rest. If it's under warranty then you should get a free one if not off to the shop for you. No point in getting it fixed if not under warranty.
