I don't really have any medical knowledge, just some anatomy common knowledge, so I was wondering how well are the notions explained in the famous anatomy textbook...
Thanks!

For those of you who, like jayffarr, think I'm referring to "Grey's Anatomy" the TV series, you should know I mean the anatomy textbook written by Henry Gray.

Okay...long answer, hang in with me. Grey's Anatomy is an excellent resource for anatomists and surgeons but had too much detail for most other people to use, let alone medical students. What I would do, is wait until medical school and use the book your professor recommends. For some reason I was doing a search on-line in the past and found much of Grey's illustrations on-line.

If you can't wait... I used Moore's Clinically Oriented Anatomy in medical school and it is an excellent text. I haven't read Grey's Anatomy for Students, but I am starting to hear really good things about that book. In the Fall I am teaching undergraduate Anatomy and Physiology and will be using the text written by Saladin for that.

Don't worry about the illustrations too much...when you get into medical school you should probably buy an atlas also. I am not a fan of the real picture atlases, but I like Netter's and Grant's illustrated atlases because they make sure to draw what you should be seeing where photographs may distract you with too much detail.

I hope this helps.

Gray`s Anatomy is an authoritative reference book for doctors and surgeons..The book has chapters like " Osteology", Myology" and thus each system of the body is described in detail. Medical students before graduation and after need "regional anatomy" like anatomy of hand, leg, liver ,head etc.
Students who want to go to medical college do not understand Gray`s Anatomy.

Hey there.
I am a nurse, grin and bear what you see on T.V.
Similairatys, are there, but not the same in real life.
I sometimes chuckle.
You will find that out yourself.
I wish you the best in Med School.
A very rewarding career.

unfortunately you do not posses the knowledge base and context to find this info useful and assimilate it in any meaningful way. It would be like taking p-chem before general chem....you need the prereqs' first.

However I admire the initiative.
