My mothers was once the most active volunteer in our community and for the past year she has been practically bedridden. She has received many diagnosis and too much medication. Nothings working. She has extreme stabbing, burning pain in her legs, feet , shoulders, arms, hands. Her knees are swollen terrible. Whatever hit her, came overnight and changed her whole life. She is presently on Lyrica and Elavil as well as blood pressure medication, and Tramadol. Anyone have any idea what's wrong with her. The doctor's around her don't have a clue.

I'd go with what others are saying here. Rheumatoid arthritis or Lyme Disease.

A simple blood test can confirm or rule out a diagnosis of Lyme. If that's what she has, antibiotics will be prescribed, and she'll recover. If it's very advanced this could take time, and in some cases a complete recovery isn't guaranteed. However, she'll feel much better.

If it's not Lyme, she needs to see a Rheumatologist, and quickly at that. There are over 100 types of arthritis, from the RA that I have (along with palindromic rheumatism, which causes unbearable pain and swelling, and comes on overnight) to Lupus, Ankylosing Spondylitis (sp?) and many others. A rheumatologist would be able to determine exactly which form she has, and she can get the treatment she needs.

Good luck, and best wishes to the both of you.

I would check for borreliosis (Lyme disease), if the doctor had not already checked for that. It's a disease that spreads by deer ticks. It attacks the nerve system, but also affects joints and sometimes also the heart. Can be really nasty stuff, but may be difficult to diagnose from its sympthoms alone. It strikes increasingly more often all over the world, and at the worst places (e.g. southern Germany) much work is made to increase the public attention to this disease.

This sounds like Fibromyalgia. It always hits quickly and attacks many parts of the body. A doctor of rheumatology would be able to give you the answer if this is Fibromyalgia.

I've enclosed a link to an article I have written on Fibromyalgia which gives solutions to things you can do in the home to make life more bearable.

Try acupuncture or acupressure if you can. No medicines there. It works wonders.
