I go grocery shopping a lot, and usually I see a pretty girl shopping all by herself.

Is it creepy to just go up to her and chat her up?

The purpose here is to get her number and setup a date.

Well, first, you must make eye contact. Keep it within reason. You know, and then a nice friendly smile. If she responds back, then you know you have some interest in return. Walk over to her slowly and say something like, I wonder if this cd is good? (if you're in a record store in the mall this usually works. Guy's use this line on women sometimes. (it works). Or if you're at the grocery store, try something like this..humm, You know, I live alone and I am looking for something easy to cook, is spagetti an easy meal to cook? I'm a beginner. Most women would love to assist you and help you plan an easy meal. Then you can carry on the conversation from there, if you find a female helping you, then you will know that she is interested in you. Make it sound natural, do not make your intentions that obvious. Most of us know when a man is interested, you just have to have nice game. (but be yourself) and a smile never fails, it always win over on us!! good luck casanova!

I always think it's creepy when someone I don't know tries to talk to me -- if I'm not attracted to them, that is (which is the category that most men fall into. Sorry guys.)

The key is just to hang back, be chill. If she is attracted to you, she will look at you and possibly smile at you. Then, I would say it's a safe bet to say hello, how's it going....basic chitchat. You might ask for her opinion on which product to buy, observing what she is buying and talking about that, etc.

I would play it cool about phone numbers, too. If she wants you to contact her, she will give you a card or ask you for yours. Trust me on this.

It's creepy if you keep doing it and never approach her. If she's noticed you all these times she might think you're creepy and is stalking her. Chill out and use some finesse. If you do anything stupid you could get mazed or worse.

It's worth a try, be honest and sweet, don't say things like "I've been watching you"hehehe Some people have met there partners in some of the more strange circumstances. Go for it tiger!

Strike up casual conversation with her first to see if she is receptive then go from there.
Something like "the store is sure busy/not busy today" or "looks like you have a great meal planned"

It depends whether you're going to sneak out from behind some shelves and yell 'boo!'. Otherwise, no its not. Its what you say that would make it creepy.

Go for it. It is no more unusual than approaching a woman any other place.
