When I actually started reading the translations of the prayers I read on Shabbat, I wondered that myself. Then I realized that human beings who did not know anything about the world around them wrote the prayers, and I didn't need to believe everything they said, or use those prayers, to express love for God.

I don't think that God is a maniac about anything.

I think that description is more in tuned with Atheists. They don't have the power that God has, but they sure want it.
