We are travelling through New Mexico and we keep seeing Jackalope stuff but we have no clue if they are real. Some people say they are real but rare while others tell us they are fictious....which is it? If they are real has anyone seen one? I am very curious! Also what animals are they a cross between? Thanks ;)

In Santa Fe we found a postcard that featured a Jackalope so it made us wonder about them...

NO THEY ARE NOT REAL! They are a cross between a jack rabbit and an antelope. You will see a lot of jackalope stuff in South Dakota too. In fact Wall Drug in Wall, SD has an 8 foot statue of one that I used to have a picture of my little sister sitting on. Don't let the locals fool you, they are made up!!!! It's a fun tourist 'scam' . I once say the Jolly Green Giant too but I was too young then to remember where he is.

They do NOT exist. But if they did, they would be a mix of Jackrabbit and Antelope.

A cartoon strip popular in the '80s had Blossom the Basselope who was a Basset Hound with antlers tied to her head ... a direct joke on the Jackelope theme.

They are a real but rare cross between a Jackrabbit and an Antelope. However, like mules, they are sterile.

Nope, just a myth. Would be kind of cool if they did exist though. I've always wanted a jack rabbit with antlers....lol
