I live in Silicon Valley; lately the last 10 days or so I have noticed my thorat hurts in the night like a sore throat; I am wondering if anyone knows if there is some bug/allergy going on?

My first thought, from your brief description:
Strep throat. I've had it.
The extreme tightness at night can be due
to the weather.
Anything from TheraFlu to just a lot of nice
hot tea, with a spoonful of honey, can prove
to be enough of a remedy--especially if the
night is still young.
(If, on the other hand, you leave it alone for
more than 72 hours, then you might just be
very unpleasantly-surprised at how much
worse it could get!)

Best of health & good luck

If it's only at night it could be allergy related. When you sleep mucous goes down your throat (post nasal drip) and makes your throat hurt. If you gargle salt water and it helps that's probably what it is. If not you may have strep in which case you'd want to see the doc.

It is allergy only; it depends on where you live. Chew two or three pepper seeds and salt together you will feel better. More remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
