Holes in your memory is a big sign. Also, people will insist you did or said something that you swear did not do. Sometimes you will go through the sensation that you are experiencing something through someone else's eyes.
This is more common than many people think. More often, people have a few different personalities and they fit fine in their lives and society. It is much rarer to have extreme cases like Sybil, who cannot function in daily life and jumbled through most of the day.
BTW, the modern term is DID (disassociated Identity disorder.)

when you don´t remember some thing you did. if you are hearing stories of things you did, and you don´t remember doing those thing, you really need to get help. there is medicine for that kind of problem to get it under control before some thing bad happens. check with a medical doctor first, then go on from there.

When you have memory lapses and when people tell you about something you did but you can't really remember doing it. Most people who have MPD have traumatic experiences in the past, especially during childhood.

When you pick up what other's say or their personalities, like someone you know or a character off the TV, & you know it's not really you. There are people like this running all over the place.
