right here... is there any more to this question?

I was agnostic for a long time because the Christianity I saw was ... well, lets just say that hypocrisy did not begin to discribe what I was seeing. I looked around at a number of religions and I saw lots of things being done "in the name of God" that, if true, that was no god I wanted anything to do with.

So, I decided that God was bogus. I read allot of material that agreed with me and it confirmed my beliefs and gradually, I adopted a more athiestic view.

Later, I was able to spend some time on it, and I decided to study the bible with the intent to disprove it. But I am not happy to find what is on the surface. I have to dig and get to the bottom of every little detail. I expected to disprove it. But, I wound up proving it to myself. I used many translations, reference works and historical data. I demanded proof. I had to see evidence.

I learned that the scientific method can be applied to the prophetic record in scripture- and the results of that experiment are pretty incredible. 100% accuracy is nothing to sneeze at. (I am not talking about vague cryptic prophecies that could mean anything- like those of Nostradamus)

The historical accuracy of the Hebrew scriptures is spot on.

There really is information in there that could not have been known at the time of it's writing (DNA, expanding universe, water cycle, earth as a sphere hanging on nothing...)

So, I went the other way. Not because I got a warm fuzzy feeling and decided it must be Jesus. But because, a thourough and honest examination of the data left me with no other viable conclusion.

And for the record, the bible is not dogmatic- man made religions are.

I was going to say me, but really, my belief in God at age 12 was about as solid as my belief in Santa at age 8 - not too sure about it, and going along so I wouldn't have to challenge authority.

My adolescence was basically realising that I had more or less always been an atheist.

I was raised as a Christian, but I never accepted the beliefs from about the age of 6 on. I later revisited the topic and found my original conclusions to be unchanged. I guess I may not fit into your scenario then, but nevertheless I thought you might find it interesting.

I'm irreligious. Although I was brought up with religion and even at times fascinated by some of the stories, in my heart of hearts, I didn't take it seriously. Additionally, once I realized their were thousands of other religions all claiming to be the "right" one, my irreligiousness strengthened. So, technically speaking, I didn't convert...as I never bit the religious bait to begin with.

Agnostic and opposed to religion.

I was raised christian, but now I have my own belief system. I do not have any 1 book to tell me how to live my life, how to think and feel. I feel much better about myself and my life. I feel I hold myself up to a higher standard than christianity did anyway.

What Protestants do no longer understand is that the Pope's pointy hat incorporates non secular communique units. they are in a position to't decide how he retains in precise touch with Jesus continuously. that's utilising them loopy. Your question brings to a minimum of one's interest the undeniable fact that Christianity has 1000 sects, each and each claiming to be holier than the others. whilst in actuality each and each is greater stupid than the others. .

I was raised Catholic, but have seen the light of reason and am now an atheist, Secular Humanist, Pragmatist, or what have you. I believe that this is the only life we have, so we'd better live it well.

Yes, I was. But I grew up and started asking questions. That took care of that. I'm now a confirmed Pagan.

Always been an atheist, but I once 'flirted' with religion.

I once won a bible in a drawing competition when I was small!
