I feel horrible.I moved to Texas, and had sooo much trouble trying to get my dental insurance card so that I could go to a dentist there. I am back home now temporarily, and i really need to go. I brush everyday and night and I floss, but I have had a cavity that has now caused my tooth to break. Sometimes it really hurts bad. I have always had pretty teeth, and this one tooth (which is a back tooth) will need a cap.Is it possible to request a porcelain cap to match the rest of my teeth? Or will it have to be pulled?
its HORRIBLE. I am just afraid of what my dentist will say and think since it has been so long.
Serious advice would be nice...none of those ugly immature comments please?
Thanks

It really depends on how bad the tooth is. If the hole goes beneath the gum you might have to get it pulled out. If it really is THAT bad you should get it out. But if it dosn't go that far maybe you could get it fixed. You should really go to the dentist anyway and get their opinion.
Don't worry, your dentist wont judge you. Just imagine what they have seen. I'm sure they have seen much worse!

Your dentist will tell you that you gonna need a root canal. This means he will clean the decay and take the nerves out.Back teeth have 3 nerves. After that he will put a post in there to support the build up.After build up he'll prep the tooth and take impressions for your porcelain crown. No big deal,a lot of work. But you gonna have a nice tooth there and make sure not to let your teeth get there a again. It would have been better for you if you paid out of your pocket and fixed it sooner. Now it will coast you much more and it will need a few visits to get done.Plus it is better for the nerve to say in the tooth as long as possible.Good luck.

you need to get to the dentist ASAP because the longer you delay the visit the more damage the cavity can cause. The dentist will decide if the tooth needs to be extracted, root canal or can be capped. If it can be capped, you can request a porcelain cap, that's what a lot of dentist use now days anyway. But hurry and get to the dentist.

1) Don't worry about what the dentist thinks. I hadn't been in 18 years until recently, he's now working on fixing my mouth up.
2) Of course you can request a porcelain cap - most are these days, just bear in mind you may have to pay a little extra
3) Keep up with the flossing, brushing and rinsing.
A year is not that long in terms of dental neglect, especially if you've been going regularly prior to sorting out your new insurance. (18 years is just silly, but phobias do that to you - after 8 fillings, 2 root canals and a wisdom tooth extraction, I'm no longer phobic and am in fact looking forward to my cleaning on Wednesday!)

It's fine... Before I started going to the dentist again, I haven't been for 3 years. You dentist won't say much about it, just a little slap on the wrist.
I would think that your tooth would have to be pulled out... Since it's already breaking apart, I think it'd be hard to be a cap on it. :( Sorry... but you're fortunate that it's one of the teeth in your inner mouth.

Gee, I guess I have to feel really bad. I don't have an insurance card and can't afford insurance. I haven't been to a dentist in over 15 years. Wish I could go .

DEAR ARMY WIFE,
AS AN ACTUAL DENTIST I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT A COLLEAGUE. WE DON'T JUDGE PEOPLE'S CIRCUMSTANCES, WE'RE JUST HAPPY TO BE OF HELP. MOST CROWNS PLACES ON TEETH ARE ALWAYS PORCELAIN OVER A METAL AND LOOK JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TOOTH. THIS TOOTH MAY NEED A ROOT CANAL BEFORE THE ACTUAL CROWN.

I would just go in. The dentist can help you and give you the options. It will only get worse if you put off going.
