lets say you wear it about three times a week and don't fall - how long does it take to wear out?

They don't last forever. Keep it in a safe dry place and make sure it doesn't get exposed to too much sun.
I would say definitely replace within five years, although if you use it alot the inside pads will probably wear out before then.

I particularly doubt that, and with some new helmets they at the instant are dissimilar effect. i bought a Bern helmet after very almost getting killed by some fool driving force and that i presumed it develop into truly cool which you will save taking falls with it until eventually it truly is visibly cracked. surely, new helmets tend to degrade with the padding and etc, long previously the styrofoam does.

I don't think it wears out unless you crash.

I guess I would replace it when the straps became frayed.
