That section dates from a time at the same time as Yahweh replaced into one among many gods acknowledged contained in the historic close to East. That truth is inconvenient now so the theologians have invented different interpretations for the passage.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me ,

No....what part of thou shalt have NO other gods...didn't you understand? A god or idol is anything that you put before God. This question is a good example of trying to put yourself before HIM.

If you have God,you will have no desire for another.
Read what happen to the children who made a image to worship while God and Moses were talking.
Not wisdom.<><

Yes, it does. At the time of the old testament (when the stories were created and passed from generation to generation) I don't think monotheism existed yet. So yahweh was basically saying that he was the best god. He was very petty, jealous, and violent.

No, "thou shalt have no other gods before me" means you may worship only "I AM," "Yahweh," the God of Noah, Abraham, and Moses; the one and only true God.
It means NO OTHER GODS.

I just like how it acknowledges other gods. After all, how could the big fella be a "jealous God" if there weren't any others trying to woo the masses?

"thou shalt have no other gods before me."
Period. One god only. No interpretation, or "bending" of the rules allowed.
