Dissociative Identity Disorder--Co-Conscious

The information below is not wholly correct. Sometimes the person who has other personalities doesn't know about the others, but it cannot be said "usually". The most unusual is DID when the person does not know, and has no memory of things done when the other personality is in control. That is called Dissociative Fugue.

Edit: Sybil is indeed a good book but only if you want a sensationalized idea of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Sybil combines fiction with fact in order to keep the reader's interest.

usually when someone has different personalities they don't know about it. the other personalities know but not the main one. however it is probably possible that you could know about the other personalities. and what that is called is multiple personality disorder. and people can have several different personalities with that. a book that you should read is sybil. it is very good and very informative about multple personality disorder and some of the causes and treatments. however that is an old book so now i am sure that there are much better ways of treating it. hope this helps
