the guy i like, knows i like him, and used to like me too, which i only recently found out, but denies having feelings for me now (because i did not know he liked me, and made the mistake of dating his best friend). and i know even though he denies it, he still likes me too (he often gives me plenty of signs that he is into me). we have been through this for about a year now. his friend and i have ended it and he knows that i have no intention of dating him again.
he told me he has always been shy and has trouble with relationships. and it seems like frequently he tries to avoid me because of reasons i dont know.
why does he avoid me and act so nervous?

He may be in a very uncomfortable situation. You are making him choose between his best friend and his best friend's ex (you). He is trying to avoid you because he doesn't want to have to make that choice. Either way he loses, his best friend or you.
