I've wandered those streets quite a bit... I may even remember some of it.
The hotels are all more or less the same. There's rooms, there's a pool. There's usually a bar. Sometimes there's beach access.... Hmm, I seem to recall the park shore having a beach... and being close to... Well, nothing really, except the Ala Moana Mall, and a few restuarants And maybe the Military museum. I was in the Navy, So I never really paid much attention to the hotels.
Head on down to Saratoga road, and hit up Arnold's Bar. It's just a hole in the wall, but you'll probably get to see some sailors at their drunkest if you show up late enough. They aren't rough though. Some old lady slips around upstairs and hands out little airplane bottles of liquor now and then. Says she uses them for crafts or something.
OK. Now, head outside, go away from the main drag, and turn left at the corner. Go past tthe denny's across the street, and walk into the white hotel lobby there. You should find a karaoke bar in full swing. This particular bar is a great place for tourists, unless the black lady with the cards tattoed on her cleavage is around. Don't buy her any drinks, she might flash your boyfriend if you do.
Aright. Time to head back to the main drag, and start going towards diamondhead. Most of the weird stuff will be on the left side of the street. Waikiki shooting range if that's your thing. There's another one in the mall on the other side of the street, but they only use .22 rounds... and not the rifle ones, the tiny ones. Waste of money that one.
There's also a tarot card reader that hangs out around here, and some "robot men" mimes.
The right side of the street has a deja vvu strip club you would probably like to avoid, but in the mall underneath it there's a guy that takes your picture with parrots. That particular mall winds around quite a bit, so don't get lost. There's also duke's lane, where folks sell all kinds of trinkets. Mostly pocket knives, lighters, and jewelry. It's a market night sort of thing, where my aquaintances did a lot of shoplifting.
Keep going down this main drag, and eventually, you will wind up on the famed waikiki beach. It's really quite a dissapointment. There's a breakwater, so it looks like a long kiddie pool. However, in daytime, you'll want to come back.
Why? because if you keep going down the beach, you will wind up in a park. Staight to your left in front of the park is the waikiki zoo, which may or may not be great, but it does have a lot more than I expected. OR, you can keep following the beach until you're sure you've gotten lost. Right about then, you will be at the Waikiki aquarium, which has like a thousand different cool fishes all in a space approximately the size of my computer monitor. Well worth the price of admission. If you want, you can even keep walking, and wind up at Diamond head. By then you will NEED the water they offer. there. It's got a pretty good view, but I would recommend driving to that.

Well, I haven't stayed there in 10 years, but I liked it when I was there. Good location -- right across the street from the beach with fantastic ocean view rooms and right next to Kapiolani Park and the Honolulu Zoo. You can walk anywhere in Waikiki from there: the International Marketplace, Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, restaurants, beach (obviously), and Waikiki Aquarium.
It's not a super fancy place but it's not "ghetto," either. The hotel even has a bar/restaurant inside called LuLu's. It's open air and has ocean views and the food is halfway decent. (I've been to the LuLu's in Kona many times and the one in Waikiki once.) Honestly, when in Hawaii you hopefully won't spend THAT much time in your room anyway. As long as it's clean and is in a good location, who cares? You'll be fine.

The Waikiki Park Shore is a nice place. It's not top of the line but it's clean and a good place to put your head down at night.
Have a great trip!
