I started having chest pains when I was about 20. Im 26 now and it recurrs sometimes. Its tolerable; I usually feel it in the middle of my chest to the left. It added pain when im leaning and sometime when I bend over. It usually takes about a week for it to subside so I usually sleep on my right side, thinking that I got it when i am sleeping. can I get an advice if this a heart problem or just a muscular thing. thanks

I hate to see you take advice that it is muscular pain, only to find out with serious consequences that it is a heart problem. Have it checked out, just to rule out any problems. I used to get a similar thing when I was younger whenever I would go running. It will probably be nothing, but if on the off chance it does turn out to be something more serious, at least you'll be able to do what you need to do to take care of it rather than ending up in an ambulance or worse.

Err on the safe side on this one. Take care.

Hi Princess. This sounds like a Hiatal Hernia. This is a common condition where the stomach starts to protrude through the 'hiatus' (the opening in the diaphragm muscle that allows the esophagus to pass through to the stomach) up into the chest (into the mediastinum).

You may want to see your medical doctor or family Chiropractor to help you evaluate and treat this condition.

Best wishes and good luck.

Well being the left side depending on if its upper or lower I would see a doctor about it. I get lower chest pains but thats after a good run but were your saying I get it checked.

I live in PA. This week a seven year old boy died in Gettysburg on the soccer field from a heart problem. GO TO THE DOCTORS. It is probably not a heart problem, but you won't know for sure until you get there.

If it doesn't occur or increase when you are exercising or doing brisk walking, it's most likely not your heart, especially at your age. Still, it's something you should discuss with your doctor, because there's obviously some kind of problem and you need to get it checked out.

If the pain is affected by positioning and movements it is most likely muscular in origin. If it is affected by stress or occurs without any provocation, it is probably cardiac origin. You may also want to be aware of the foods that you ate prior to the pain occurances. It may be heartburn.

you need to see a doctor to be sure, but it does sound like acid reflux. over the counter prilosec could do the trick. but, to rule out anything more serious, you should consult a doctor.

Could be a hernia.........but it is better to go to a doctor and find out. You might be lucky that nothing bad has happened so far. One life is all we get.
