I'm so proud of my little man. I know every baby is different, but is this special? I have a friend and her daughter is 15 mos. and still not walking.

I'm so disappointed by those saying it's not advanced!! My son started walking at 9 months, and was a full time walker at 10 months, and EVERYONE was amazed. Although 10 months is considered within the realms of 'normal', it's certainly not typical. Most moms I know hope their babies will be walking for their 1st birthday, and often don't.

Definitely be proud! Although others have been known to walk earlier, your son is amazing to be a walker at 10 months!!

Nope, it just means that your child learned to walk sooner than the 15 month old...perhaps somewhere down the road, maybe in speaking the 15 month old will surpass YOUR child. ALL children develop at different stages some are better at one thing but don't grasp another for quite some time. My daughter was walking un assisted at 10 months. So your son isn't the only child who has ever done so. Don't expect Mensa to come calling yet.

You should be very proud of him. But his walking early doesn't mean he's any more advanced than any other child, other than in the physical department. Babies typically start walking anywhere from 9 mos to 18 mos... and it's all considered normal.

I don't think so. Babies generally start walking between 8 months and 10 months. My daughter started walking at 8 months and my son was walking by 9 and a half months. All babies are different!

lol...that's cute, but not unusual. Most babies start taking steps b/w 9 - 12 months. Older babies not walking could just have scrawnier leg muscles, or no motivation to walk. Or, there could be a developmental delay. Is your baby the fluffy chunky kind, or the tall lean type? Most chubby babies I know started around 7/8 months. Still other babies aren't good at walking until 2 years old.

I have to agree with Marge on this one. I'm really surprised that no one puts this in the advanced category. Although it's within the normal range it really isn't typical. My son was a full time walker at 10 months old and he is extremely advanced for his age (he is now 4). I was standing on my own without assistance at 4 months old and was a full time walker at 7 months old and that was 34 years ago. My other 2 children started walking at 12 months old on the dot and are more "on track" with their development but my son is as smart as a whip!

My daughter was pulling herself up on the furniture at 8 months. The day she turned 9 months old, she let go and took off across the room. My nephew walked at 14 months. They both had milestones that they accomplished earlier than others, and ones that were later.

It's really great that you are so proud of your son, but try to resist comparing him to other babies.

Thats so funny. I too have a 15 month old who can not walk yet..... actually he refuses. But our first son who is only 2 walked at 10 months. If this baby is your first...... then they are usually more eager to keep up with you. Even though he can walk remember he is still a baby and he needs to still be doing baby things. Good-Parenting!!!!

If you want it to be special then it is. Don't chart your child's achievements based on some stupid perspective a doctor and a bunch of lab coats sat down and said what a child should be doing and by when. Just enjoy your baby because before you know it, he will be 18 and out the door to college, so take the pictures and make the memories, because that is what they will be, real soon, memories. God Bless.
