It sounds like a middle ear infection. This can get worse very fast and can rupture an ear drum. Please see a doctor. They will prescribe an antibiotic and and antihistamine.
There is a canal that goes from your throat to your middle ear that relieves pressure. When your ears pop it is air passing through this canal. The antihistamine may help clear this canal and relieve the pressure. The other way the pressure is relieved is by rupturing the ear drum. If you wake and your pillow has pink yellow liquid on it your drum has ruptured. This heals most of the time with only tiny loss of hearing but sometimes there is a hole left or other complication. It is better to see the doctor.
Don't put anything in your ear unless you are told by a doctor, this is not the 19th century. If you are an American and do not have health insurance you should spend the money for this and see a doctor.

Gargle with warm salt water, that might help your throat. And a hot water bottle or a heating pad will help your ear. Or stand in the shower and let the water warm your ear. Get it checked by a health care provider tomorrow though. You need to manage the infection. Ear infections can be dangerous. I had an ear drum burst once due to an ear infection and it was the worst pain I have ever felt (that I remember). And it's really hard on your hearing for a good long while as you can imagine.
I was staying at a remote industrial installation in Alaska years ago when my eardrum burst from an infection. It actually felt so good when the pressure was released. It was sort of funny though because I went to the security desk and asked the guard if he could call the medic. It was after hours so the guard sort if dismissed me and told me to come back in the morning during regular hours. I turned my head to the right so he could see the blood running out of my left ear and I thought he was going to kill himself trying to get to the phone to call the medic. I still laugh about the look on his face...
See a doctor right away.

If it is indeed an infection, you will need an antibiotic and you won't get that here. You should see a doctor ASAP. If it is an infection, as it progresses, the side of your face will be painful and you could very well have hearing loss. This is nothing to fool with.
Ear ache and swollen glands - you definitely need a doctor - now.

GO TO A DOCTOR
if the infection spreads you can lose the hearing in your ear.
take an anti inflammatory- with food, such as ibprofen.
use some betadine throat rinse for the throat and suck anti-inflammatory or anesthic lozenges.
your dr wil perscribe antibiotics (most likely) for you
some also say that an cotton ball w/ olive oil on it, stuck int he ear can help to relieve this ...(scientifically there is little proof however)

Make sure to see your doctor asap,, but until then you can warm up some baby oil,, put oil in a small glass and then place the glass in a bowl of hot water,, use a cotton ball and put it into the oil, wring it out a bit and then put it in your ear,, it will soothe your earache,, but see the doctor because if its an inner ear infection it may begin to pus and you ll need to take antibotics. Hope that helps,,, been there!!!

Extra-Strength Tylenol should help a lot. If you indeed have a middle ear infection, antibiotics are needed to clear it up. You may get some additional relief from antihistamines. Drink plenty of fluids. And I, personally, have never gotten any true relief from lying on a heating pad or hot water bottle--only a red and hot outer ear.

if it is an infection, you need to take antibiotics exactly as prescribed. since it doesn't sound as if you have a formal diagnosis, you could be having referred pain from an enlarged lymph gland. these tend to swell as they fight off viral infections and allergic reactions in the body. treat with advil or tylenol, drink lots of fluids, and see a doctor if the pain doesn't diminish in a few days.

I had an ear infection recently and it hurt sooo badly. Lie with your left ear on a heating for it to just stop hurting. That worked for me.
I hope this helps!
