A lukewarm sermon at Mass?

A sermon that talks about high ideals like the war on poverty, violence, and hatred?

Sermons on love and forgiveness?

Sermons about divorce, abortion, homosexuality?

Sermons that talk about God's retribution? Hell? The afterlife and Judgement Day? What expectations God has of us? Our culture and its deterioration?

A fella just added that priests don't have "sermons" during Mass, but homilies. My mistake.

But why get pedantic about it? We know what the question means!

It DOES matter what the priest says during this short time, by the way. The priest is a shepard to the people.

Sermons aren't given during Catholic Mass. Mass is simply a Worship service.

There is a thing called a "Homily" and this is usually a sermon-type talk given by the Priest after the Scripture Readings of the Liturgy of the Word, but the Homily isn't "preaching" but rather supports in narrative what the scripture readings conveyed.

Priests during Mass don't get "preachy"

I never said what the Priest says is unimportant.... I said, his homily is only a recap and reflection of the readings. You need to brush up on just exactly what a Mass is. It appears you really don't know the difference between a Catholic Mass and Protestant Church Service.

All of the above sermon topics would be of considerable value. Obviously a "lukewarm" sermon is of lesser value, whether delivered at Mass or anywhere else. But that isn't a problem in my parish!

finding on how lengthy-winded and/or uninteresting the priest is, there are situations whilst my sought after area of the sermon is, "enable us to pray." ;-) My sought after sermons are those which word the Scripture passages to actual life. I additionally appreciate sermons that talk concerning to the lives of the saints and the historic previous of the church. The priest at my final church became very a lot into social activism, and his sermons generally delved into the lives of persons like Oscar Romero. I enjoyed listening to him communicate approximately his studies in South united statesa. with people who actual knew Archbishop Romero. Father T. additionally knew Blessed mom Teresa of Calcutta and Pope John Paul II. i actual enjoyed it whilst he instructed us approximately assembly them and what they have been like.
