if you go to a LOCALLY-OWNED pharmacy, (not wal-mart, walgreen's, sav-on or any of those corporate outlets, but one where the guy who owns the place is actually there), and tell him your interest in pharmacy practice, I'm sure he would be very happy to answer any questions you have. Most pharmacists I've known don't mind, and even like, being asked about their profession and their business.
some states require that you be 18 and certified as a pharmacy technician before you can actually work with prescription drugs (controlled substances). these laws vary from state to state. check with your state's Board of Pharmacy to find information on requirements for pharmacy technicians. try a yahoo search "*Yourstate* board of pharmacy" and look around in there. you'll find something.
Seriously, find a local guy who runs his own place and tell him you're interested in pharmacy, but you love to sweep, dust and wash windows and you think minimum wage is just fine because you really want to work there, and he might just give you a job. I know you're only 16, but write a resume. You will impress.
Hospitals and nursing homes have volunteer programs. that is another thing you might want to check out.
good luck!

It depends on the state. Some states require 16 and others 18 to work behind the counter. To be a regular cashier in front of the store, just 16. Just go to your local pharmacy and talk with the pharmacy manager.

I would imagine it would be vary for locally owned pharmacies and chain ones. I think you might have more of a chance of getting hired at a pharmacy if it is local. I know someone who started working at one when she was 18 and to be honest, I can't see anyone younger working at one.
It won't hurt to ask, though.
If you don't want to volunteer somewhere, try a nursing or retirement home. Chances are, you won't be able to work hands on with the residents, but you could probably work in the kitchen. I work at a retirement home and there are younger people working as dietary aides. It might not be the type of medical job you'd prefer, but it's still some experience.
