A few enlightening facts:
The United States is the world's oldest modern democracy - 1776.
Denmark is next - 1849.
64% of the world's countries in 2006 have an electoral democracy, compared to only 25% in 1970. We must be doing something right, eh?

The same thing that happened with the last democracy we installed in the middle East...Israel...we have become more hated by the vast majority of the Middle Eastern citizens.
I know first hand from 7 deployments in the last 16 years to that area, it has only gotten worse.

Freedom and self-government for 25 million Iraqi people and 30 million Afghanistani people.
Basic human rights for women in both countries.
An end to a murderous dictatorship that invaded two of its neighbors, threatened and intimidated others, and filled many mass graves with its own citizens. Often those citizens were killed with the nastiest sorts of weapons, like dusty mustard or sarin.
An end to two murderous dictatorship that funded terrorism around the world.
An example for middle eastern people that freedom and self- determination are a valid alternative to living under the oppressive yoke of sharia.

Afghanistan women can voice opinions like American women do. We got rid of a murderous dictator (for you liberals that is Saddam) and we have had no attacks since 9/11.

The US now runs foreign gulags, engages in domestic spying, illegal wiretapping, reading mail, violating the Geneva Conventions, unilaterally rescinding international treaties, secretly abolishing the FISA court, and suspending habeus corpus.
Sine we began promoting democracy in Iraq at end of a gun barrel, incidents of international terrorism have skyrocketed. Al Queda, which had no presence in Iraq prior to our invasion and occupation, now is stronger there than they were in Afghanistan 9/11/01.
The world is a far less stable place, and we have weakened democratic causes throughout the world as well as in our own country.
