My 2002 Jeep Wrangler X, with 60K miles, stalls at an idle when I stop at a light. It also idles rough. The engine just dies, and no lights come on. Unlike when I anciently “pop” the clutch, the engine will die, but the warning lights come on.

It starts up perfectly. In fact the problem goes away if I am running the AC.

It has penty of power. Everything seems normal.

I cleaned my aftermarket air-filter, but that didn’t help. I guess I should change the spark plugs. Perhaps a tune-up is in order.

I wanted to see if it was something simple before I take it to the dealer. There is a $100 deductible on the warrantee.

I took it to the dealer this morning. They say it is the computer, and the MAP sensor is plugged with dust. Does this make sense?

If it was an oxygen sensor, you should get a Check Engine light and it would run rough during normal driving. I don't think that's it.

I might lean towards an idle sensor (not sure if that trips the Check Engine light or not) or fuel pressure regulator, but...

You mention a couple of wierd things like no dash lights coming on and no problems when running the AC. I'm not a mechanic, but this sounds like a possible electrical issue like a loose ground. This one may be tough for you to troubleshoot yourself.

Does it have a Mass airflow sensor? The oil from KNN and similar filters sticks to them, attracting dirt particles. Idle air control motor is the other thing (or vacuum leaks)

you need to Do 2 attempt to make certain what it truly is you will want a spark tester and a Can of Carb purifier.....power the Vech until eventually it dies survive factor streets the place you could pull over whilst it does die then take a Screw driving force and open the air tube too intake and supply it a shot of Carb purifier then attempt and initiate up it......If it fires up for a Sec or 2 then you definately've a gas difficulty maximum probable a gas Pump....yet whilst it would not attempt too hearth then you definately ought to placed your Spark tester on between the wires and have somebody attempt and initiate up the truck ensure you have Spark......No Spark properly you need to have a bad Crank sensor no longer sending a sign to Coil too hearth ......Or your coil may well be getting warm and dieing .....you could frequently tell if that's the case if it is going to restart after the Coil cools down.

Your IAC (idle air control) motor is probably dirty and getting slow to open up when you come to a stop. You could probably use a throttle body cleaning. Your also overdue for a tune-up if you have not had one done yet. Throttle body cleaning will probably fix your problems though.
