We had a guest preacher at our church today and he brought up this question. The scripture that goes along with this is in John 14:2. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

In a more literal translation mansions are actually rooms. I thought this was a good topic of discussion. I have to say that I don't really desire a mansion. Just to be in my Father's house will be so awesome and indescibable.

I agree that God has a mansion or room prepared for me.

Here's an interesting take on this issue. Our earthly bodies are often called "tents" in Scripture.

One example is "We know that if the earthly tent we live in is torn down, we have a building in heaven that comes from God, an eternal house not built by human hands." (II Corinthians 5:1)

What if these "mansions" are our new eternal bodies? As the passage that follows the previous one says, "For in this one we sigh, since we long to put on our heavenly dwelling." (II Corinthians 5:2)

Just a thought I wanted to throw out there...

Since you said mansion are actually rooms then guess what you will be in your Father's house as Jesus said he was going to prepare a place for you. Just imagine how great our Father's mansion is not compared to nothing here.

Well actually god didn't say it. The first gospels were written over 50 years after the jesus guy left. It was said to bribe the ignorant masses into behaving like sheep so the government could control them with the promise of after life rewards. Mansions was used because it was a time when kingdoms were feared and admired.

He sure is taking his time cleaning up that mansion for you. Probably trying to get over all the ugly stuff he did- drowning those people in the flood etc.

Amen! I would rather have a blanket on the floor in a corner of Heaven, than stay in the finest mansion this world has to offer.

I wouldn't want to be in a mansion. I'd prefer a nice cottage in a forest next to a waterfall.

Yes, i believe that if you've done even a little bit of good things that people will remember.. a mansion will be made for you.. as long as you believe in god.

God has the plan and it looks good to me so, why should I say different. I will be happy once inside those pearly gates and will sleep under a tree for that matter.

Just be thankful we have a loving God who cares for us and has a retirement plan set in place for us.

Like you I think it is rooms HE is preparing. It doesn't matter though, as long as I get to go! I would be fine with no room or mansion.

Yes. Whatever it's precise meaning, He has a place that He has prepared for each of us. I love this verse because when my dad was in the hospital I read it to him. He was not a believer in Jesus or the bible at the time. Four days before he passed away, he said yes to Jesus as his savior. I know Jesus kept His word, and my Dad is at that place the Lord prepared for him.

While this may be true, that is one of the 'fringe benefits', if you will, of being a child of God. He only desires what is best for us and I for one cannot wait to live with Him. I have soooo many things I want to say to Him face to face. HALLELUJAH!!!! Aren't you glad? May God Bless U.
