Well, i finally got a BMX bike for my birthday, if you check, you'll notice i asked a question about where should i buy one.

Well, i noticed, BMX bikes generally have a small frame, for tricks, the same size as an old youth-sized bike my brother got from this Church give-away, maybe you might have heard of it, Angelus temple.

Anyways, the point is, can't i just convert that youth bike into a BMX bike? it is VERRY basic, just a frame, two wheels, a steering..thing, and the chain, pretty much

I was thinking of returning the BMX bike, i only got it yesterday, buyin a nice mountain bike, and i was thinking all i need to do is give that old bike a clean up, put some pegs on it, and done!

is it a good idea?

thing is, im not thinking of going big on BMXing, at least not if i dont keep the real BMX bike

The people at the bike shop should be trained on how to properly match a rider and a bike. If they don't appear to be expert at doing this, go to another shop. If they don't let you take the bike for a trial ride, go to another shop. The knowledge of how to determine the correct size bike and setup for a rider is part of what you are paying for when you go to a bike shop where the prices are higher than buying online. You should get some value for that difference in price. HTH

Sure I'm sure you could, but I'm think you are confusing BMX bikes with freestyle bikes. BMX bikes would not have pegs. In fact it is actually against the rules to have pegs. Pegs are designed for tricks and trials, not for BMX race events.

The toptube length on a kids bike is way too short compared to a BMX bike. You'll need the longer toptube or you'll feel all scrunched up on it...
