I want to use this to improve the image on my home theater projecter.It's native resolution is 480p but it has an HD input with an output resolution at 720p.

Don't waste your money. If the native resolution is 480p, no matter what input you provide to the TV, it will scale it to 480p.
So say you use the scaler, you have unecessary scaling that will introduce more noise.

480--> scale up to 720p --> scale down to 480p.

Your TV can accept an HD signal, but will scale it down to 480p again.
