Have you seen your dentist for a regular checkup? I am a dental hygienist and bad breath can be caused by many different sources. If you are brushing 2x/day, flossing daily, brushing your tongue, these are all good ways to get rid of bacteria that cause bad breath. As the previous poster said, Listerine is also an excellent antibacterial. ACT, Scope, etc. do not kill the germs associated with bad breath. Periodontal disease and decay are also common causes of bad breath. If none of these are a factor, you may want to get a check up with your MD. Sinus problems, allergies, acid reflux and stomach issues can also cause bad breath. Also, don't chew Winterfresh gum as suggested, it is not sugarfree and can cause cavities. Choose sugarless gums and chew all you want!

There are several things that could be causing canine bad breath. Let's sort it out and maybe eliminate some of the reasons. Are you feeding soft food or dry food and if you are feeding soft food, are you providing hard bones (either man made or not) to help keep the teeth clean? And no, it doesn't hurt to give your dog LARGE bones on which to chew, as long as they are raw, never cooked, as that dries out the bones and causes splintering. If your dog has gum disease, it is caused by the same reasons that people get gum disease, improper hygiene. Yes, you can brush your dog's teeth, they even make different flavored toothpaste for dogs, they love it. Now, if the problem is internal, such as poor digestion or it may be eating feces or other things that causes the breath to be bad...or licking where it shouldn't, but will anyway. Sometimes, a dog's bad breath will come from licking an itchy part of it's body that is caused by some allergies. I would suggest that a trip to your vet would answer your question and solve your problem. I hope that this answer has helped. Oh, I forgot to mention that gum disease can shorten your dog's life, not immediately, but because odor is usually evidence of some infection, plus if your dog's gums and teeth are hurting, he isn't going to eat right either.

i have the EXACT same problem. i have IBS (a stoamch problem) and thats why i have bad breath. eat some yougurt and things like that. there is a bacteria that helps your stomach. i also do use listerine, but it only helps me for like an hour. i ALWAYS have a piece of gum in my mouth. i go thorugh about one pack a week. lol....but what i do, is just get like "stride" gum or "orbitz" gum, and tair it in Half. the flavor will last longer also with a smaller piece of gum. God Bless♥ hope this helped!

ps.
make sure u brush ur tounge AND the side of your mouth. most people dont, and this is one of the soucres of bad breath. i also want to say........if u have like a "dry" / "cotton" mouth, then ur most likely dehydrated, making your breath smell worse. just drink some H2O. NOT soda, this will only dehydrate u MORE. :)

Bad breath - when dental hygeine is not the issue is most commonly caused by stomach issues or dehydration. Make sure you drink plenty of water and check with your doctor. Have you noted when your breath gets bad- is it triggered by a food or smoking or coffee or anything else?

Use Listerine and your breath will be fine. Just make sure you use it properly and don't just spit it out right away, you have to get all the germs, and make a dentist appointment.
