There are many different chemical straighteners available in salon. The strongest being a Thermal Reconditioning (Japanese Straightener) all the way down to an Anti Curl to reshape and soften your curls. All of these cause some degree of damage depending on the product and the condition of your hair prior to service. If you have had curly hair all of your life it is really going to be a shock to all of a sudden have pin straight hair from a Thermal Reconditioning. And remember your hair is always going to grow out again- curly. In between retouches of the straightener you are going to have to deal with 2 different textures on your head. Any decent salon will charge $300 and up depending on length for the chemical service.

I'm a hairdresser. A chemical relaxer is just that, a relaxer it won't straighten your hair it will relax the curl that you have moreso than straighten it.
I don't recommend it. I suggest that you get a really good straightener that is ceramic or a tourmaline and use a heat protectant (i suggest Matrix SleekLook Iron Smoother) when hair is dry to keep your hair from getting damaged.
If you need anything else, let me know.

I just had it done a month ago. I wished I would have left the curl. My hair is so dry. It is more frizzy now than with the curl. I had to spend money on treatments to help with the dryness. My regrowth is coming in waving, so I am still spending the same amount of time with a straight iron. If I could change the fact I did this, I would.

I think you should let your inner beauty shine! If you have curly hair, embrace it. It would be sooooo much less damaging. If frizz is a problem, try some frizz serum or calming cream and that should do the trick. There are a lot of people with straight hair that would love to have your hair. Curly/wavy hair is beautiful! good luck!

buy a control conditioner that you can leave in your hair for frizzy/curly/wavy hair*
they will tone down all of that. Also you may need a hair cut to control the frizzys more. Ask your hairdresser for suggestions for your type of hair......don't chemically straighten your hair..you'll damage it for life*
GoodLuck*

I highly recommend that you do NOT get a relaxer...it will only damage your hair. I have curly hair and I have had two relaxers which didn't help at all; they really just create more problems down the line.
