Certain philosophers have surveyed the world's great religions, from Christianity to Zoroastrianism, and discovered that a common spiritual river runs through them all. This river is called the "perennial philosophy," and it consists of three interconnected currents or principles.

1. A greater reality exists that underlies the ordinary world of things and lives and minds.

2. In each person there exists something similar to, or even identical with, this greater reality.

3. The ultimate goal of human life is to realize this greater reality.

It proves that there is a common truth. However philosophies differ on the arrival of such truth. If the roads are different then so will the outcome be. Although all roads lead to Rome, all roads do not lead to the truth. Buddhism teaches to be merciful and such, so does Christianity. The Buddhist however teaches that to reach complete mercy the Buddhist must look inward to himself. The Christian realizes that it can only be achieved by looking outward to God. The Zoroastrian believes human emotion is evil; that pity is an undesirable trait. The Christian believes human emotion is required to connect with each other and deliver Gods love and mercy to others. Hinduism believes we are all little gods waiting to be born, Christianity believes in one true God and salvation is through such God.

A survey is not an in depth look into a religion because the details overlooked could be an eternity of happiness or hell.
