With a dem president probably not. It's all about making Bush look bad. The dems of today are nothing like the dems of 1942.
***We have NO choice now!!! What do you think is going to happen if we lose in Iraq? You think the terrorists are just going to fade away and leave us alone. We have NO choice, we must win!!!!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President in 1942. He was a Democrat. What FDR did would not fly today, but he and VP Harry Truman won the war for us. The first thing he did was put US citizens of Japanese descent in concentration camps, while giving Germans and Italians a free pass. Bigoted Racist? You Betcha! Could Bush get away with putting all US citizens of the Muslim faith in concentration camps? And the one thing I agree with was that FDR put a gag order on the liberal media. It was a good thing otherwise there would be headlines screaming "bring the troops home" after 2,500 troops died in the first 24 hour period on the beaches of Normandy (D-Day). Our troops did not have to worry about a Gitmo or an Abu Ghraib. When taking the Pacific back island-by-island, our G.I.'s took no prisoners. Of course, if we had lost the war, either President Truman or Roosevelt (if he had lived) would have been tried as war criminals. There are people out there who want Bush tried as a war criminal. For that to happen, we'd have to lose this war, but they don't care because they hate Bush.

Comparing Apples to Oranges my friend, Apples to Oranges. The Democrats of that era are long since dead and with them their spine, brain and intestinal fortitude. Today's democrats only seem to look for "free" government hand outs, and an easy way out of everything. Today's democrats were hatched and reared out of those of the 1960s and early 70s. That is, they are the Jane Fonda off-spring. "Why fight when we can just run to Canada? Wanna take another hit off that joint?"
And, for the record, Japan only bombed the U.S. after the oil and steel embargo was put in place. Not to say that their expansionism would not have required a military action against the U.S. at a later date, but you must still get the full picture. The U.S. was not so innocent a bi-stander. And the same holds true with Germany as well. Hello, ever hear of The Lend Lease Act?
No, today's democrats are more like a Prime Minister NevilleChamberlain, revisted. They foolishly believe they can negotiate out of any fight regardless the cost.

I know today's Republicans would've destroyed our chances at winning World War II--had they been in charge of the White House and Congress back then.

But this isn't about Democrats wanting out of an open-ended conflict, is it, sweetie?

This is about being pissed that the people and Congress is finally demanding "accountability" from your Fuhrer, Herr Bush, isn't it?

So long as the GOP was in control of Congress, none of this would've happened, would it?

I feel very unsympathic towards people like you. You had no plan for this war and you don't want to see it ended--because of your fear that you'll be seen as incompetent and weak to your enemies.

Guess what?

You already ARE.

Dear God. This partisan bull is getting on my nerves. Does being a member of certain party grant you any distinction from the rest of humanity? Like the Party in 1984? Hmmm?

Seriously, I think the outcome would have been the same regardless of who was in charge.

If I'm not mistaken, both FDR and Truman were Democrats, so are you condemning them too?

You say that it's a bad thing to pull out of a war. Why? You don't give a reason! I would like my comrades-in-arms to be at home with their loved ones. Why is it such a crime to you to pull out of a war? Is it a sign of weakness to you?

I think it's a sign of weakness not to trust these people to take care of themselves for once. We're entering the fifth year of this war. I think it's high time we got out. We've proved our point by taking out the Taliban and Saddam from power.

*steps off the soapbox*

Ja denke ich so we would all be speaking German right now, they need to just let us do our job and get it over with.stop holding us back,, and for all of those that are crying and complaining that we are over here, be glad we are here and not having to fight on our own soil, and those that are crying that civilians are getting killed it is called collateral damage, it happens in war, sometimes people are in the wrong place at the wrong time sorry for there luck, but what ya going to do.

WW2 was over in less than four years once America was in it.

No need for a timetable.

If GW and his supporters were in charge in 1942, would WW2 still be going on, and Nazi Germany in control of 75% of the world?

In the future, think through your questions before posting.

This didn't make any sense.

Nor did it prove any point except to show how exceptional America's military might is when she is fully allowed to engage, not held back a'la Rumsfeld.

Not until 4 years into the conflict. Oops, we weren't in WWII that long.

If Bush had been President when Japan Bombed Pearl Harbor, would we have invaded the Middle East?
